Process guide
Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect and how we work.
1. Paperwork
Once we’ve agreed to work together, we will prepare a simple Contract, a Scope of Work based on your detailed proposal, and an Invoice for the first installment of the design fees. You can bring the signature pages and payment to our first meeting and we are off and running.
2. discovery
At our first meeting we leave you with “design homework” and ask you to go through a selection of design books and catalogs that we’ve chosen just for you, as well as gathering any idea books (Houzz, Pinterest, Instagram) or online resources that will help us get the best sense of your style.
3. layouts
We also take detailed measurements and create a 3-D model of your home along with layouts that include any/all floor plan options. This is our fool-proof way of making sure everything will fit and there is proper flow in every room.
4. sourcing
Once a layout is approved and we have confirmed sizing on all furnishings, we begin sourcing. We typically present you with 8-10 options for each item and work our way through an elimination round until we have a list of items that we like and would like to see in person. The second installment of the design fee is due at this time.
5. shopping
We schedule a joint shopping day or individual “go see’s” to see and sit-test our items and narrow down to our final selections. We also collect rug, wood and fabric swatches and these are reviewed in your home’s lighting to check for color compatibility, then one last measuring check is done. 2-D mood boards are developed and presented, and final selections are made.
6. purchasing
Once we’ve completed our due diligence and have our final list, we begin processing orders. Depending on the source, 1. we will purchase using your credit card, 2. we will request payment up front so that we can purchase on your behalf, or 3. you will be asked to purchase and pay directly. All costs will be approved by you via email before purchasing, and all paperwork will be shared. This ensures that everything is transparent, paperwork is in your name, and you can be contacted directly when deliveries need to be scheduled. Deliveries and returns are your responsibility but we initiate and manage the process and are always here to help or intervene if any issues arise. Upon order completion, and if your project has four installments, the third installment of the design fee is due.
7. victory lap
Once all items arrive, we meet for a final review and take a well-earned victory lap. Final payment on the design fee is due at this time.
