Evidence of My Fabulousness
I come to interior design through a side door. Because of this, I think it's important to share the fact that I have been practicing my creativity all of my life. As a working artist I bring a unique perspective to the homes I touch and not a staid, schoolbook formula for how things "should" look. Besides, everyone knows the best ones know how to break the rules. Here are some fun, interesting things you should know about my life-long creative journey.
I’ve done a lot of macramé (hey, it was the 70's).
I made life-size puppets when I was a kid and used them to scare the shit out of my parents (I have to admit, they were epic, and I often wish I had kept a picture of them).
Self-published in the first grade, I MADE two books from my own stories using a typewriter, staples, cardboard, glue, tissue paper and markers.
I helped art direct my husband's photography portfolio including some very cool test shots (see above photo).
I’ve been making creative Halloween costumes for everyone, forever.
I’ve done some amazingly funny birthday party invitations and thank you cards and a KILLER birth announcement.
I’ve stripped and refinished various furniture items including two sets of dining room chairs.
I wallpapered my college dorm room with Hefty Steel Sak garbage bags because I couldn’t stand the thought of plain cinder block walls.
I’m a bit of a knitting savant and have made loads of cool scarves, sweaters, cowls and hats under my own brand, Rogue Crafts.
I’ve painted my entire house – twice – and have developed a serious hatred for mullions.
I’ve won painting and drawing awards at the Art Student’s League and National Academy School.
I hand-lettered a large sandwich board for a deli called Frank Sinatra's Hero Palace.
When I learned to sew I was forced to make an elastic waist skirt, which was soon followed by 6 redemptive penis-shaped pincushions.
I've made pillows, tablecloths and lots of napkins.
I designed and created this website.
So there.
